Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks avoid arbitration with 2-year deal for Troy Stecher The Vancouver Canucks avoided arbitration by locking up defenseman Troy Stecher on a two-year contract, while Brock Boeser continues to score goals at Da Beauty League and Elias Pettersson continues to win awards in Sweden.

Thanks Carol.

I don't have any problems with Stecher's new contract. Everyday players are being paid more then 14 years ago. The cap has doubled.

I would have liked $1.9M per season but I can live with this

It'll be tough to make room for Hughes on the blueline, I can't see us getting anything more than peanuts for any of our expendable Dmen. Glad they're taking some more time to think the college decision over.

Considering how far under the cap we are and that it's FAs money, who cares how much he gets paid

There is no reason to rush Hughes. Although I would love to see him play this year, I think it would be wise for him to attend college for a year and come back next year more mature, strong, fit, etc.

Wow...EP is some kind of special. It is amazing to see all of his accomplishments. I hope he can translate it in to the NHL.

What do you think the Over/Under on goals scored by EP this year should be?

If Hughes shows that he is ready at camp there is really no reason to not have him play. Looks like he wants to play now and many have said he looks NHL ready.

Within the first 4-5 games Tanev should be out for 40 games so there'll be room.

It's pretty sad that it's to the point where the team can plan for him to be out for a chunk of every year. The guy has some poopty luck

Pettersson is crazy good, I've seen him a few times play over the last 3 years. When he was drafted so late it was quite surprising, especially also looking at the somewhat negative reactions from Nucks fans at that time. Maybe euro players are often underrated... Anyways, will be exciting to see what he can do this year in the NHL.

I agree with this. Longterm its a mean nothing cap hit. 2yrs from now the roster will be much different & no doubt trending up.

The cap hit means nothing but the amount paid for the quality of player matters. Can't be setting a precedent that average players can get whatever money they want.

$2.3m isn’t a large amount.
3% of the cap only.
Thats under average of 4%+ for 23 players

I wanted Stecher @3/2m didn’t get it but not concerned either. All in all the majority of contracts are good to great value. Only LE & Hutton look bad & EG has to prove his value but thats this season & not giving him any slack. Our cap space is in great shape. When Nillson goes & Demko makes the team it gets better. MDZ & Gagner will add more yet. Marky has this year to probe he gets a decent contract but more likely a future backup if Demko progresses as we expect.

Each 1% is 795k
Every 1% saved goes to future star contracts. Bo is a bargain & savings there.
